Pharmacies

Pharmacies can access the Free Interpreting Service to provide community pharmacy services by calling the Pharmacy Priority Line.

Free Interpreting Service

Why should pharmacies engage an interpreter?

Pharmacists dispense medicine that can be dangerous if taken incorrectly, and information about medications can be complex. It is essential that people can communicate effectively with pharmacy staff about the medications they are taking, how to take them correctly, and any risks or side effects that may be associated. Engaging an interpreter can also protect pharmacists from professional risk.

Using the Free Interpreting Service is easy and convenient. It is quick and simple to register, and you will be connected to a telephone interpreter within a few minutes of calling.

Educational video for pharmacists

The Educational video for pharmacists has been developed to provide pharmacists with a comprehensive introduction to TIS National and its services.

Extension of the Free Interpreting Service to pharmacies for the administration of COVID-19 vaccines to non-Medicare clients

To support the Australian Government’s objective to encourage non-English speaking cohorts in the Australian community to be vaccinated against COVID-19, TIS National has temporarily extended the Free Interpreting Service to now cover non-Medicare patients receiving their COVID-19 vaccine.

Pharmacists are able to utilise interpreters from TIS National to assist in their consultations with patients and to ensure informed consent is given for COVID-19 vaccines.

Register for the Free Interpreting Service

Each pharmacy will need a unique client code to access the service. Pharmacists not associated with a pharmacy can register for their own code. To register for a client code, complete the client registration form.

If you require assistance with registering or have queries about eligibility, contact TIS National’s Free Interpreting Service team.
