Allied health professionals who meet specific eligibility criteria can apply for access to the Free Interpreting Service (FIS) under the allied health professionals pilot program. To determine your eligibility, please visit the dedicated information webpage for allied health professionals available here.

Eligible allied health professionals can complete an online application form on the TIS National website.

Non-English speaking individuals can often receive free access to TIS National interpreters, where the organisation they are trying to contact is a TIS National client. However, as an individual you can also register and pay interpreting services yourself or for a friend or family member. To do this, contact the TIS National Client liaison team and provide your contact and credit card details. If you require the assistance of an interpreter to do this, please call 131 450 first.

Private Medical Practitioners (defined as General Practitioners and Medical Specialists) can access the Free Interpreting Service when providing Medicare-rebateable services. Nurses, reception or other practice support staff can also access the Free Interpreting Service when working under the guidance of the registered Medical Practitioner.
