Important information for applicants

  • The Free Translating Service application is in English only
  • You must be 18 years of age or over to submit an application
  • Someone else can apply on your behalf.

Being prepared

Check the visa subclass and official documents types meet the eligibility requirements before you apply. Only eligible persons can access free translations.

To create an account and apply, you will need:

  • An Australian phone number and valid email address
  • The applicant’s passport or ImmiCard number
  • The applicant’s official personal documents to be translated.

 

What happens next

To get your official personal documents translated you need to:

  • Create a Free Translating Service account
  • Submit the documents in the portal
  • Receive confirmation your application was successful
  • Wait for the notification that your translation is complete 
  • Download the translated documents from your account.

The account holder will be prompted to confirm they have read, understood and accepted the Terms and Conditions for the Free Translating Service before submitting each application.

Important reminders

Uploading your documents

You will need to provide images of your original documents. Personal documents must be genuine and issued by an official authority. The documents must name you, belong to you, and be primarily about you.

Please upload photos or colour files when submitting your application. Certified copies and black-and-white copies are not accepted.

Applying on behalf of someone else

You can use your Free Translating Service account to apply on behalf of someone else. The account holder must provide each applicant's personal information and visa details. 

Everyone needs their own application, including family members.

Applying on behalf of a minor

If you are applying on behalf of a minor (someone under 18 years old) as a parent or guardian, you will need to upload your supporting documents including:

  1. The biographical page of a passport or ImmiCard or Australian driver’s licence, and
  2. Visa grant notice naming you as the parent or guardian of the minor or Medicare card that list the parents and minors’ names.

If you are not the parent or guardian of the applicant, you will need to obtain the supporting documents listed above. You will also need to upload a document that confirms you have the authority to act on behalf of the minor. This must be signed by the parent or guardian.
