TIS National 的歷史

Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) 在澳洲提供語言服務有著悠久的歷史。

聯邦翻譯服務始於 1947 年，因第二次世界大戰後移民項目而誕生。 隨著新移民在澳洲穩定下來，語言服務的需求亦應運而生。 因此，Red Cross以及聯邦政府開始執行翻譯功能去填補這一需求。

這些服務在 1958 年 12 月 Department of Immigration and Border Protection (也稱為Department of Immigration) 接手這些功能的時候被整合為聯邦政府語言服務。 今天此服務被稱為TIS National。

TIS National 的重要日子

•  1947: 聯邦翻譯服務開始。
•  1958: Department of Immigration 承擔翻譯功能的責任。
•  1973: 此局設立免費的緊急電話口譯服務幫助非英語人士。
•  1991: 電話口譯服務和政府的翻譯單位組合併重命名為 Translating and Interpreting Service 。
•  1998: Translating and Interpreting Service 由遍及澳洲的九個站點結合成三個運行點，分別位於墨爾本、珀斯和悉尼。
•  2002: Translating and Interpreting Service 結合成一個位於墨爾本的站點並重命名為 Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) 。
•  2013:Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) 重命名為 Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) 。
•  2015: Department of Immigration and Border Protection 以及 Australian Customs and Border Protection Service 於 2015 年 7 月 1 日合拼為一個新的部門。
