TIS National is partnering with the ABS for the 2016 Census

18 July 2016

TIS National is partnering with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to provide interpreting services to culturally and linguistically diverse Australians and assist them to understand how to complete the Census. Every five years the ABS counts every person and household in Australia and this Census will count close to 10 million dwellings and approximately 24 million people in Australia on Census night.

The 2016 Census will be Australia’s first Census where more than two thirds of Australia’s population, more than 15 million people, are expected to complete the Census online on August 9.

TIS National interpreters can assist non- English speakers calling the Census Inquiry Service with general enquiries. However, due to the confidential nature of the information collected, the ABS won’t be offering a dedicated over-the-phone assistance service to complete the Census. The Census Inquiry Service will be available from 22 July —30 September 7 days a week.
